I actually think its quite mediocre. I guess I am to blame. I didn't invest money into my craft but into trivial things because I thought that one day I could afford to invest all at once. Boy, was I wrong. Every time I have something saved I have to spent it on bullshit that comes up. I know your camera doesn't matter, but after five years I have out grew this camera and its lens. I hate my camera.I would kick it down the street if I could, but then I would be camera-less. But even if I did have the money, it would be my luck that Canon release a newer version right after(it happened with this piece of shit) of the camera I want. I hate my work. But thats the great thing about photography. There is no time limit on when you can grow and learn about picture taking. That fact gives me the calm before the dread.

Lets Talk About It:The Twilight Saga

SPOILER ALERT: STOP READING RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL BE VERY SAD.

Yes, I like Twilight...Go ahead, judge me! But there is some confusion to men and certain women on why the masses love Twilight..I am here to break it down for you in a way I have yet to hear explained.

It's a fantasy, not just any fantasy but a fantasy with no consequences. A fantasy with so much to gain in the end without really losing anything. Here we have a plain Jane with no personality, who gets picked by the most beautiful and richest guy who happens to be immortal guy. It gives a chance to a lot of girls to believe that you don't have to be special,interesting or even beautiful to be chosen by the "perfect guy". Not to mention there is tons of hot wolves and hotter vampires who are willing to risk everything for this one girl who isn't even special. Also, because its a great distraction from the reality of the world. A place where war,violence,greed,racism,rape,murder,death,poverty and misfortune happens non-stop, it is nice to get away from how fucked we truly are(hence the title of this blog).

Bella doesn't really loose much at all.. Unlike other series like say Harry Potter where both of your parents are slaughtered and some of your friends by pure evil ; or Vampire Diaries where Elena Gilbert's adopted parents, real parents and last living guardian are all killed by the result of vampirism; or other series where you have to sacrifice family,friends,home,mind,well being just to have a good end ---Bella gets to have it all. She gets to be what everyone is searching for and have been searching for since the beginning of time: eternal youth,beauty,money and love (yes, like Ponce de Leon didn't just search the globe for the "Fountain of Youth"; or there isn't countless advertising on how to be beautiful; or how people try to do things to become rich like playing the lottery every week; or like most songs,books,movies aren't about love).

Oh sure, she started to give birth to a demon spawn who eventually killed her horrifically (like she wasn't going to have to die anyway) but even the demon spawn got be a perfect little hybrid. She doesn't loose her dad because he is okay with her being a vampire (or ignores it all together) as well as keeping her immortal family. She gets to even keep Jacob around, in a creepy way but he will still be around like she wanted. No one dies or suffers that Bella cares about, its just all falls into place. In addition, being a newborn vampire she doesn't even have a struggle with bloodlust. She just magically adapts perfectly her "vegetarian" blood diet (ughhh I didn't like that Stephenie Meyer). Newborn bloodlust isn't suppose to be easy, it should take massive training according to the preceding books(Jasper anyone?). Finally, instead of the massive war with the Volturi that is suppose to happen (and carries on for 100-200 pages) it doesn't! The Volturi backs down because once again vampires from all over the world are willing to help this one un-special girl.

So this is the reason girls/people love The Twilight Saga.. She gets everything she wants and everything works in her favor --no matter what.There is no real responsibility for her actions. I don't know about you but I may not want to be a the main character of a book/film/tv if that meant lots of people I loved had to die. I might have to think about it. But who has to think about gaining beauty,youth,happiness and money for all eternity with no real trade offs ? Not many people.

A review of the movie:
I will say the movie was better than I thought it would be. Usually I hate the movies because they never follow the book(not since the first movie). However, I was actually pleasantly surprised it did. I think they may have skipped a few sex scenes but apparently America is more afraid of sex than graphic gore.

Likes:
1.The birth scene
was horrifying and that's great.It could have been more graphic but somehow I thought they would skip this all together so I was grateful for ANYTHING. Since in the other films they took blood scenes and made them not bloody (-_-) it was nice to see actual blood IN A VAMPIRE MOVIE.. It (almost) helped that the music was all happy and then it slid right into SAW III. I wasn't expecting it at all. It saved the movie for me, because I almost disliked the whole film until that scene.

2.Bella's transformation
was beautiful with her human life flashing before her eyes. It was nice they played her actual Lullaby Theme, instead of leaving it out. Also, I wondered why at first Bella looked so sickly (even before the baby). Once she was pregnant she looked like emancipated DEATH warmed up. SHE LOOKED HORRIBLE.There was nothing glamorous or redeeming about the way she looked! Finally, she transformed into a vampire. Bella went from looking like she escaped Michael Jackson's Thriller to her looking like she had an eternal gift card to Sephora.

3.The way they handle the Jacob pedophilia part(LOL!).
I had no idea how they were going to handle the imprinting of man to a baby but they did it. By showing Reneseme as an adult/teen as soon as he imprinted, you almost forget that she is still a baby and he's a grown ass man(or teen?). But it was also a beautiful flash forward with all the music,her voice and seeing her as an adult/teen. Surprising it was all CGI-ed versions of her. I thought those were real people, but nope all computerized.

Dislikes:
1.I hated the background music. There was this annoying ass background music that made the movie seem like a soap opera. The music was a bit too happy. Was that in the preceding movies? Breaking Dawn is the darkest of the series so why is this so happy? I mean, we're talking about a vampire baby crushing you from the inside out. Do I really need to feel like I'm on a happy ride up an elevator?

2.The acting. I know that Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson can act. I have seen numerous films with them in it. Yet they seemed bored, uninterested or like they were just reading their lines. The seemed passive and almost un-phased that their beloved Bella was about to be sucked dry by her own fetus. This is the first time I noticed this out of all the films.

3. At some points I felt like I was watching the Power Rangers. When the wolf pack met up and we're reading each other minds I was just like DEAR GOD WHY???WHO SAID THIS WAS OKAY?? I was just waiting for Jacob to say "GO GO POWER RANGERS TO KILL BELLA-YOU CAN NOT STOP ME.. AH-HA".. It had this cartoon feel.. You know--the cartoons you can catch on a Saturday morning...Weird......

Anyways I still liked the movie (thanks to the last 30 minutes redeeming the whole thing). This is the first movie I have liked since the first one (Catherine Hardwicke, girl you had it right). I look forward to the next one.

*UPDATE: I just realized that Edward Cullen didn't sparkle in Breaking Dawn Part I. Which I guess is fine but be consistent. If he's going to sparkle in all the films and books, he or at least vampire Bella should have at least sparkled just a little.

WOOOO HOO after waiting a whole year for them to restock and then another year for them to mail it to me (sarcasm) I finally have my boots. I have been searching for the perfect combat/military boot for like 2 years now. And after 3 fail attempts with other boots I finally have them! This my first time dealing with URBANOG.com .. I saw it in a magazine and finally broke down and bought them. At first I was worried because there was NO REVIEWS on them AT ALL. I was afraid I was going to get these run down,cheap looking,tacky shoes that had been Photoshopped beyond belief but I was wrong. They are comfy, fit well and I'm gonna keep them forever and everrrrr.... I will say one thing however, it took forever to ship. I paid $10 bucks for shipping but it took two weeks to arrive. I have gotten faster shipping from China for free. Nevertheless, I am really happy with them.

I don't know but I'm getting a little obsession with ancient Egypt and Egyptian mythology. Since Horus' comeback or should I say he never left? (I mean his eye is on the dollar bill) I have had a little obsession..However it didnt just begin. It all started in 6th grade when I saw my Social Studies book with the gorgeous gold tomb of King Tutankhamun on the cover (in fact I kept the history book just because of it, shhhhh.. don't tell haha). We learned the most about Egypt that year and I was proud because Egypt is in Africa and may be the only still standing evidence of African royalty that is acknowledged by everyone... Even if its downgraded not to be "African" (pleaseeeee)... Anyways! I have even had dreams about being in Egyptian temples, explaining to Americans about Egyptian history(as if I was there in ancient Egypt and I'm talking about my family) and touching the walls of hieroglyphics. I have taken in interest in the stone Lapis Luzli as well.. I currently own a Lapis ring that I wear everyday. I plan on a necklace and bracelet in the future once I can afford too.Also I own a bracelet from 1970s Egypt that was my mother's a .925 silver necklace from Egypt which I bought 4 years ago and tons of hamsa jewelry (which is of Egyptian mythology, Buddhism,Islamic religions and even Christian tradition). And oh yes the movies about Egypt! Of course we have Cleopatra (1963), we have Mummy series (1999) and Queen of the Damned (2002). Apparently QOTD wasn't completely accurate to Anne Rice's novel however Aaliyah made a great Egyptian queen! Also everyone has seen Michael Jackson's Remember The Time (1992) video! But gosh I'm rambling..Let me just show you what I mean.

I love these advertisments when they come on! They have great music and beautiful art direction that definitely catches your eye. My former marketing class said that it takes several times before someone even is aware of that your advertisement exists but something tells me these commercials may only take one time.

Usually when I see an ad before a Youtube video I get angry. This may be one of the first ones I have ever watched(and not press SKIP) and actually wanted to track down information about it. Its actually a short film and you can watch it here.

The music,colors and VHS effect is so nostaglia for me! It reminds me of the 90's so much. Those were good times that I miss so much. Now I definely want to try their new fragrance based on a commercial! This isn't CK's only great commerical, click here to see another one.

1.Fight Club

Everyone has seen this right? Everyone except for me up to the year 2011. A friend tried to persuade to me watch it in 2009, but with seeing a picture of pink soap on the cover I was like sorry no... well lucky I didn't because I wouldn't have appreciate how close I was to the Narrator (main character who is unnamed).... too bad Tyler Durden won't come to save me from my mental hell I have created for myself, but I do have false hope he will.. Maybe for you too..Probably not

2.Lost In Translation

You probably aren't in Toyko with the whole city in your backyard of your hotel but you can pretend. This movie is as boringly as my life is right now so I can accept the pace. Besides I love Sofia Coppola even though her movies are like great sex with no climax... (Yes, I mean there is usually no climax it kind of just ends..)

3.It's Kind of A Funny Story

Though it stars teens, they are in an adult mental ward so its all fair game. Unrealistic as going to a mental ward and finding love,friends and happiness all in one place is ...someone wrote a book and film while adding an indie soundtrack to it making it all possible. And I can relate to Craig, the main character who initally decides to jump off a bridge.

Every couple of months I go through a period where certain music (and films) is exactly how I feel inside. But never before have these songs which I have always had in my library touched me until now. Lately, I have been having dreams, one of them reoccurring. I don't know the meaning behind them but I will say I enjoy them despite the subject matter. Twice I have had the dreams of my hometown being a metropolis in ruins. It is quite post-apocalyptic in nature but yet so beautiful compared to my reality. In the dreams I am often scared or excited and sometimes I am even taking pictures. Well, in both dreams I am taking pictures. These dreams have caused me to look up photos resembling the dreams. And with I ran across the drawings of Anton Furst. Furst was a production designer for Tim Burton's Batman and various other movies. It was incredible how my dreams matched his drawing in reality(even though Gotham City isn't reality). However when I tried to look up more on Anton, I found out he committed suicide two decades earlier. Here is some of his illustrations. Did I mention he designed the Batmobile?

I maybe behind...Okay I am. I have just discovered Gregg Araki and all his glory with the "Teen Apocalypse" trilogy all starring the young James Duval (Frank the bunny from Donnie Darko?Sweet god..Google him...its okay ---I'll wait). Araki's films are independent and very low budget, but in a good way;almost as a spit in Hollywood's face....Now a days mainstream movies are just great visuals and nothing else. I enjoyed all three of the films in the trilogy. I mostly enjoyed Totally F**ked Up(1993) which is the first film about "adolescents who have formed a family unit and struggle to get along with each other and with life in the face of various major obstacles." All films featured gay/bisexuality, the mixing of races, and common problems and hypocrisies with the world. And what is is so interesting is these films were made over 15 years ago but alot of the things mention in the film are now true, very futuristic for the time.His movies make you feel as if your in another world, aware of the problems but not taking them so seriously because you can do take them seriously in real life...I plan to watch more of his films because in the middle of my current Quarter Life Crisis it's theraputic to enjoy a good laugh at how f**ked up the world really is . I am currently a very angsty adult and Araki's films puts a comedic light on really serious stuff which keeps me from driving my car off a bridge..Just joking....Kinda.

I don't know how I discovered Disco Rat's work but when I saw it I said to myself "wow, I wonder what magazine this is from" only to find out it wasn't from a magazine it was from a illustrator and photographer known as DiscoRat.. Vibrant colors, painted perfection with professional gloss is one of the ways I could describe her work. I tracked her down for a little interview just to see what was inside that head of hers.

Who are you?
I am 21 year old illustrator and photographer from Kyiv, Ukraine.

How did you get into photography and graphic design?

I always loved creating images. At first it was illustration, then, because of the lack of skills I took a camera and tried to visualize my ideas with the help of photography. However, my addiction for drawing is not gone, I often use drawing or computer graphics when editing photos. I often took pictures of myself, because there is no model who can understand what I want better than myself.

What is your goal in photography?Where do you see your self in 5yrs? Your inspirations?
Maybe the goal is my "painted photo" style. I don't try to catch real life moments in my photographs, I don't want to convey a mood, show my soul or provoke any thoughts. I create the photograph artificially from beginning to end, all that matters to me is a striking image, light and color. Creation of the 'image' is what I am interested in the most, which is why I chose photography.I don't want to work as a photographer who receives specific assignments, I'd like to have my own recognized style, for which people would come to me. So that in my work, I'm not asked to resemble what somebody has done, but exactly what I do myself.

My inspirations are endless images on the internet, beautiful people, colors, make up, and the thoughts that come before going to sleep.

What would you call your style?

For several years it was discooo, everything about lights, colors, glitter, make up, flares, highlights, but now I think it's time for me to search for something new.

What do you use? Do you think your camera/software matters?

A week ago I sold my first camera, Canon 1000d, it is the most common and cheap dslr with the cheapest lens. It was always hard for me to get the desired quality of shots, it really matters for me, but the bad quality still can't stop me. Editing pictures is the most interesting thing) I work with each photo heartily, often "before" and "after" really differ much. And of course, I use Photoshop.

What do others think(friends,strangers,family) think of your talent?
My parents and friends appreciate my work and help me to develop as much as possible. I don't have many comments on flickr or anywhere else, but I often get admiring emails from strangers) this always really pleases me)

Is There Anything James Franco hasn't done? Now Fashion Photographer?

It's not about what you know but who....I will say not bad for a first try. I have seen work similar to his style in magazines and ads and I immediately thought of Jueger Teller for Marc Jacobs and all of Terry Richardson's work. If someone told me that James photographed this I wouldn't have even noticed. In fact, I may have even looked for the credits to see if Teller or Richardson had photographed it instead. With that being said they aren't original which may be bad for the unknown photographer but for someone like Franco, it doesn't matter...Why? Because Franco pisses glitter and charm(oh yea he's famous and has connections). I like his attempt , I would also like to see what time and unlimited access to money will bring because in my opinion, sometimes your photography is only as good as your subject. Hey, maybe it will become a full time job if acting fails.

I stayed up and watch the royal wedding half sleep... but when I got fully awake to see Prince William and Harry get out the car -- boy was I shocked! They all looked like they raided Michael Jackson's closet...They always said that Michael Jackson like to look like royalty along with his military gear and I will now say seems like royalty and military gear looks like Michael Jackson! So many people commenting on their "Michael Jackson jackets" instead of "oh those royalty military jackets," now thats what I call influence! I was not a fan of Kate's dress. I really expected something more for a designer under McQueen, however it was stated that Kate had more control(of course!) of her dress then Sarah Burton so its okay....

Amazingly last week I said, I want to got o TOYKO, I have to go! I drew some anime, put some Haruki Murakami books in my Amazon cart and wrote on in a notepad 愛日本 which is (I) love Japan.. I was going through tons of comics and looking at photos of Japan on a blog and had this big of nostalgic feeling. Since I was a girl I was obsessed with Asian culture and I thought I have to acutally meet this obsession but then I wake up to this..One of the worst earthquakes in Japan in almost 100 years.. My family there is fine, that's great. However, I have lived through a huge natural disaster and I know from my experience : Japan won't be the same for a very long time...

I discovered Kelis in a 2001 issue of Seventeen magazine. There she was with her warm honey hair streaks, "consistently inconsistent" style and with yours truly Anna Sui.. It was the first time I had seen her(I had heard her unconsciously around 1999 on a song) and I was in LOVE.. I still have that clipping..I keep it in a binder(like a psycho). Kelis is one of the most UNDERRATED singers and trendsetters of all time. She has been copied,traced and erased by the biggest stars of today and also uncredited. Her ideas have been copied so much she is running at a rapid pace of changing her style over and over so that it can't be cloned. She is the underdog for no reason of her own but I love her and I would love to spend a day with her taking her picture of her everyday life. Judging from her occasional interviews I'm sure she can give me great wisdom about womanhood,music and the philosophy of life.

When the hurricane hit in 2005, I moved to an upper-class catholic school outside of New Orleans and often the girls had this distinct jewelry that all seem to come from the same place. I was amazed by it and I learned it was of the most famous jewelrymaker in Louisiana, or the only rather --Mignon Faget (pronounced my-new fa-jay). Created and handcrafted by hand its always nice to see artist do things themselves. Nowadays every celebrity, sports player wife and god knows who else wants to make a jewelry line but can't even sketch a stick man to save their lives. I hope one day to own several of her pieces to remind me of where I came from and what New Orleans used to be.

I wouldn't say so much now, but at one point there was a romanticism about New York City.. The city that never sleeps, where your dreams are possible and you become yourself. Parts of that is still true but not with the same genuineness. I mean ---I wasn't there in the 50s-90s but I have read about it and listened to others around the office that were there. Anyway I am rambling lets talk about one of my favorite movies: 9 1/2 Weeks...It wasn't my favorite movie because of the plot or the story but rather New York City being the where it takes place. Tall ceilings, Manhattan apartments, dinner parties, art shows, sex and love all in one place. Its kind of how I see my life in 5-7 years.

It wasn't about the Sofia Coppola photo, but I'll admit it did sway me at first. I saw on my twitter feed Jenny Mortsell tweeted about her photographic friends and I said "this has to be good." If you haven't seen Jenny's illustrations you just have to know that whoever she recommends has to be great! But Jenny is another post for later because she is just... I can't even go into words with her originality...But on with Katharina --her work stands out, if I was some photo editor or anything of high power I would seek her out of Berlin and have her shoot a whole issue of my magazine because she is that epic. And I think she's shooting film with a simple 35mm also known as the Yaschia T4, but that's my assumption but a good one :-). But I won't ramble at her greatness or tools --just go look at her portfolio.

I haven't blogged lately and probably won't be so much... Um I recently moved to New York officially, got an internship at a fashion/art/film/culture magazine( I won't say yet until I'm comfortable..) and now I am looking for a side job and a sublet..before February 1..much blogging won't be happening until I get this under control.. I suppose it may all work out if I was able to get two internships in 2 business days of being here then the rest should fall into place.. I hope so.. well talk to you later once this is all together..

by the way I left my memory card reader in Louisiana..so no pictures until I remember to buy a new one :-/

She's a certified bad ass that isn't in just one band but two, The Dead Weather and The Kills. Alison is my hero. Its nice to see a lady and yes I said LADY, not give a genuine f*k... Did I mention she looks good doing it? If I could photograph her I could live life happy for all time. And I don't mean lets go to a studio with lights and be fake.. No, I mean let me show up to your tourbus or backstage and shoot you right there..with a camera with no concept or thought... just going with it.

Style Inspiration + Film : Rosemary's Baby

I always notice the wrong things I suppose. I mean, your husband sells you out for fame and fortune meanwhile there is a Satanic cult trying to put Satan's seed in you(well, Rosemary)!!? And in spite of all this happening in a film,all I can think of is :

"God I wish the 1960s mod would come back."

"Do you see that smocked dress while they are carrying her kicking and screaming to have Satan's baby?"

"Oh my god I hope I look this stylish when I hit 80"

"Look at the apartment decoration isn't that spectular?"

You can't deny how great fashion (and classy I might add) was in the 1960s. I miss the old days when a man and woman really dressed up ,however all hope is not lost. Modcloth.com has TONS of affordable clothing similar to the 1960s..but I won't ramble, if you haven't seen this film, please do.

By the way, I heard that they are remaking Rosemary's Baby... Please don't...EVER.
